Teac AD-850 Home Audio Cassette and CD Player with USB Recorder and Karaoke Mic

TEAC AD-850 is a home audio system that combines cassette and CD player functions with USB recording capabilities and a karaoke microphone. It features a 4-track 2-channel stereo head construction for high-quality recording and playback. The system includes one recording/playback head and one erase head.

The cassette player is compatible with C-46 and C-60 tape types, offering tape speed of 4.76cm/sec. It is equipped with a DC servo motor for smooth operation and has a pitch control feature for adjusting playback speed. The wow and flutter rate is only 0.25% for a stable listening experience.

In terms of frequency response, the chrome tape mode covers a range of 50 to 12,000Hz with a +/-3dB tolerance, while the normal tape mode has the same range and tolerance. The signal-to-noise ratio is 59dB, ensuring clear and crisp sound. The winding time for a C-60 tape is approximately 120 seconds.

For connectivity, the system has line input and output ports (RCA) with 462mV signal level. The CD player features a 3-beam semiconductor laser pickup and an 8x oversampling digital filter. The frequency response is 20Hz to 20kHz with a +/-2dB tolerance, and the total harmonic distortion is minimal at 0.02% (1kHz). The S/N ratio is 87dB or higher, providing excellent audio quality. Analog output is available through RCA ports with a 2.0V signal level.

The system also includes a USB interface (USB 1.1 Full speed) for playback and recording of MP3 files. The USB playback frequency response is 20Hz to 20,000Hz with a +/-2dB tolerance, and the S/N ratio is 85dB or lower. The playback bit rate is adjustable from 8K to 320Kbps. The recording format is also MP3, with frequency response ranging from 20Hz to 15,000Hz for CD and USB sources, and from 100Hz to 15,000Hz for line input through USB. The S/N ratio for recording is 85dB or higher, and the bit rate is fixed at 128Kbps.

In addition to audio playback and recording, the AD-850 offers several useful functions. It supports the recording of audio with the microphone signal mixed in, allowing for karaoke or vocal recordings. However, this feature is not available when recording from CDs to USB. An echo effect is also available for microphone input.

The system supports playback modes such as continuous, shuffle, and program for CDs and USB flash drives. It can display the ID3 tags and file names of MP3 files on USB flash drives and CD-R/RW discs. A timer playback function is available for CDs, tapes, and USB, and a timer recording function is available for tapes only. When dubbing, adjustable recording levels are possible (except when dubbing from CD to USB).

Other features of the AD-850 include a cassette tape counter function, pitch control (+/-10%) for cassette playback, peak level meters during recording and playback, and a dedicated remote control for convenient operation. The system is compliant with RoHS regulations.

The power supply function supports various voltage inputs depending on the region: 100V AC at 50/60Hz for other countries, 230V AC at 50Hz for Europe, 120V AC at 60Hz for the USA and Canada, and 100V AC at 50/60Hz for Japan. The power consumption is 13W.

The dimensions of the AD-850 are 435mm (width) x 145mm (height) x 288mm (depth) including protrusions, and it weighs approximately 4.8kg (10 5/8 lb.). The operating temperature range is 5 to 35˚C, and the operating humidity range is 5 to 85% without condensation. The storage temperature range is -20 to 55˚C.
